Finally! Winter Field Day - January 28 & 29, 2017!
The weather from the pre-WFD event did not hold out for us. It was about 30°F for the high, all 3 days. The Friday overnight crew consisted of Laura (KD9EID), John (KD9BYW), Brian (KD9EOL), Mel (NE9A), Dick (WA9NNN), and Kelvin (W9BBQ). Set-up started mid-afternoon on Friday, with some rations and beverage buying, the unloading of cars, putting up the awesome tents of Brian and Dick, and setting up the uninsulated, unheated cabins. Kelvin arrived in the evening with his infamous chili for our dinner, which was delicious! The Nightcrawlers Net was run Friday night from Cabin 10.
Attendance was great on Saturday! Antennas went up with the help of some great hams. Our own Hap Holly (KC9RP), who came out with Rich Bacorn (W9NTX), conducted a few interviews for the RAIN report, and even ran 40 meters on Dick's radio. Kelvin hosted the Original Preservation Net on Saturday at 9:00 PM, followed up by John hosting the Nightcrawlers Net at midnight.
Sunday morning, we had Joe Russo (KD9EJX) show up with coffee and donuts, and George (AC9KU) showed up with his fabulous camera to take more pictures, and of course, both stayed to help with the site clean-up. We can’t thank them enough!!
Our number of contacts for Winter Field Day 2017 is TBD. It is because of our clubs’ camaraderie, and love of the radio, that this was such a success.
Many thanks to all who either aided the event, or attended!! Those also in attendance include: Dave Lewis (WB9HWE), Dave Kossart (KB9EPL), Hap Holly (KC9RP), Tom Antolak (KA9ZXN), Jim Zalumsky (WG9J), Rans Caswell (W9YOY), Mike Grutza, George Zardecki (AC9KU), Steven Hill (KB9DSQ), Jerry Dagenais (K9PMV), and Joe Russo (KD9EJX). We couldn’t have done all of this without your support!
We are all looking forward to Winter Field Day 2018, or as we refer to it as WFD.2!
We hope to see you then.
